The Delhi Capitals team will be without their entire foreign pace quartet during the first two matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman and South African fast bowling duo Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi will be unavailable due to their national commitments. While Mustafizur Rahman is available due to Bangladesh’s ongoing series against Ireland, Nortje and Ngidi are in the Proteas squad to play the Netherlands in the ICC World Cup qualifiers. As a result, Delhi Capitals will have to rely on local stars Chetan Sakariya, Khaleel Ahmed, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, and Ishan Sharma for their pace attack in the opening two games against Lucknow Super Giants and defending champions Gujarat Titans. Head coach Ricky Ponting has revealed that Prithvi Shaw will open the batting with skipper David Warner, and hard-hitting Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will come at no.3. Ponting has also backed Shaw to have his biggest season ever in the IPL, as he has worked hard, trained better than ever before, and is in better physical shape.
