Rohit Sharma, the captain of Mumbai Indians, was not present at the official captain’s meet in Ahmedabad ahead of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League. Speculations arose on social media regarding his absence, but a report from TOI suggests that he was unwell. The reason behind his illness is unknown. Despite not being present at the photo session with the IPL captains, Rohit is expected to feature in MI’s opener against Bangalore on April 2. However, there are chances that he may be rested in a few games considering his workload management. Head coach Mark Boucher had hinted during Mumbai’s pre-tournament press conference that they would allow Rohit to rest one or two games if he wants to. According to an Indian Express report on March 29, the Indian skipper was planning to rest in a few games in IPL 2023. In case that happens, Suryakumar Yadav will likely take over the captaincy.
