Hyderabad: The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at St. Francis College for Women celebrated World Photography Day with an event called ‘CHITRANJAN 2025’. This included a photography competition, exhibition, and a special talk by well-known photographer Prashant Manchikanti.
K. Ravi Kumar, the department head, talked about the power of photography to inspire and change lives. He stated that the event aimed to highlight the students’ talents and creativity.
Principal Prof. T Uma Joseph discussed how photography captures important moments and preserves memories. She noted that photographs tell stories and are valuable in fields like crime investigation. She encouraged everyone with a passion for photography, not just professionals, to celebrate this art form.
The event also introduced the Communis Club’s charter. Prashant Manchikanti, as the chief guest, handed out certificates and cash prizes to winners of the photography competition. This contest attracted about 150 entries on the theme of “evoking emotions” from 56 students across different colleges.
Manchikanti conducted a session titled ‘Framing Success’, sharing insights into the commercial and creative sides of photography, including food, travel, wedding, and journalistic photography. He stressed the importance of skills like observation and situation analysis, offering practical advice for budding photographers. The event drew over 150 students from Hyderabad and celebrated both photography and student innovation.
