State to launch new KA-model surveyor license system

Hyderabad – The Telangana government is preparing to launch a new Licensed Surveyor System to improve how land is measured and registered. This initiative aims to bring more clarity and speed to land transactions, especially for farmers.

Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy shared that around 5,000 licensed surveyors will be hired and trained for this purpose. The move is inspired by the successful model currently used in Karnataka.

To prepare for the rollout, two senior officials from Telangana’s Survey Department recently visited Karnataka. They studied how the system works there and submitted a report with suggestions. Based on their findings, Telangana is now working to implement a similar setup.

Selected candidates for the new system will receive training at the Telangana Survey Training Academy. The goal is to create a team of professional surveyors who can handle land surveys accurately and efficiently.

Karnataka’s Licensed Surveyor System started after changes were made to its State Land Revenue Act in 1999. It became fully active by 2005-06. The system requires surveyors to create detailed land sketches before any property is registered. These sketches include clear data on boundaries, area, and ownership.

Today, Karnataka has about 6,000 licensed surveyors along with 4,000 government surveyors. Each licensed surveyor handles roughly 23 applications per month, earning an average of Rs 30,000. Their job involves surveying land, preparing the required sketches, and uploading them to an official portal for registration.

Telangana hopes this new system will bring similar benefits—faster land transactions, better transparency, and increased support for farmers dealing with land records.
