The Telangana Congress party in Hyderabad has decided to reach out to the minorities in the state to gain their support in the upcoming Assembly elections. This decision was made in the first meeting of the ‘Minorities Declaration Committee’ at Gandhi Bhavan. The committee, chaired by Mohammed Ali Shabbir, had discussions on various issues related to the minorities. They discussed the Muslim reservation and welfare schemes introduced by the previous Congress regime that benefited many poor Muslim families. However, these initiatives came to a halt after TRS came to power in 2014.

The Minorities Declaration Committee will interact with Muslim and Christian religious organizations, professionals, minority institutions, civil society members, and other stakeholders. They will collect suggestions from all sections of the minority communities and compile them into a draft declaration. People can provide their suggestions through a dedicated email ID and WhatsApp number. A desk will also be set up at Gandhi Bhavan to receive representations in person.
