Hyderabad: The government wants a special allocation of 289 TMC of water from the Krishna River for new projects. This request will be made during the KWDT-2 hearing on September 23. Officials have also listed ongoing projects needing more water. The state demands 904 TMC of Krishna water to support these initiatives.
Officials explain that 289 TMC is necessary for new projects, while ongoing ones will get extra water. An additional 90 TMC is planned for the Palamuru Rangareddy lift scheme, 100 TMC more for the Jurala project, and 35 TMC for a new scheme from the Srisailam left bank canal. A detailed report outlines water requirements for old projects (303.54 TMC), projects under construction (287.04 TMC), future projects (289 TMC), drinking water (15 TMC), and industrial use (9.29 TMC).
State Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and a senior team will attend the three-day hearing in New Delhi. They will highlight the unfair treatment faced by Telangana in using Krishna water after the division of Andhra Pradesh.
