Heavy thunderstorms and rain on Saturday caused a lot of damage to crops in Karimnagar district. The standing crops and harvest kept for drying were heavily impacted. The areas that were affected included Indurthi, Gunukula, Mudimanikyam, Gagireddypalli, Sundaragiri, Kondapur, Ramancha, Ogulapur, Choppadandi mandal in Chigurumamidi mandal of Karimnagar district and in Peddapelli districts. Paddy kept at IKP center was also dampened by the rains and hailstones.

In some villages, the harvested paddy got wet due to thunder and lightning and heavy rain at once. Even the paddy crop that was at the harvesting stage was damaged. The farmers are very upset and stating that this time the crop has suffered more damage due to the untimely rains.

State Planning Commission Vice Chairman B Vinod Kumar is worried about the untimely heavy rain with hail in the Choppadandi area. He advised the Collector to give a report on crop and other losses immediately and assured the government will help the farmers in all ways.

District Collector RV Karnan will visit and assess the crop damage and other losses. Proper precautions are necessary because weather department officials are saying that untimely rains will continue for a few more days. Once the Collector’s report is given, the government will provide all kinds of support. Farmers are lamenting that if the government had started the IKP centers on time, this situation would not have come.
