Experts Warn Farmers of the Harmful Effects of Methane on the Environment and Livestock
A seminar was conducted by Sow and Reap Agro Private Limited and Kosher Climate Private Limited in Jajapur, Narayanpet district to educate farmers about the dangers of excess methane gas release in paddy fields. The farmers were urged to take steps to minimize the release of methane gas by using proper fertilizers and natural manures to get better yields.
District Agriculture Officer (DAO) John Sudhakar explained how methane gas can become toxic and does not allow proper oxygen to reach the paddy crops if corrective measures are not taken at the right time. He advised the farmers to adopt proper soil conservation methods to drastically reduce the use of chemical fertilizers. This will help preserve the valuable cultivable land from becoming acidic and toxic.
Agriculture extension officer Prashanti and agriculture officer Pradeep also explained various novel measures that can be taken by paddy farmers for reaping better harvests. Kosher Climate representative Shravan Kumar briefed the farmers on carbon credits, effects of methane, and the amount of fertilizers to be used in the paddy crop.
The seminar was attended by village sarpanch Sugandhamma, district farmer coordination leader Jagan Mohan Reddy, representative of Sow and Reap Agro Rajeshwari, president of village coordination committee Sudhakar Reddy, watershed member Vardhan, village AEO Prashanthi, MPTC Shekhar, and a number of farmers. The farmers were encouraged to take necessary steps to minimize the release of methane gas in their paddy fields and adopt best practices for better yields.
