Morning walkers in Hyderabad are unhappy with the Ministry of Defence’s restrictions on their movement. Although two-wheelers are allowed to travel on Cantonment roads, pedestrians and walkers are not. Walkers have expressed their frustration with the authorities for not explaining why there are restrictions on their movement, even though it has been three weeks since the roads opened. Signboards stating “no trespassing” are still up near Bolarum, and walkers are not permitted beyond that point. Richardson Road is another area where walkers used to stroll but are now restricted. Nikhil Sriram, a resident of Yapral, expressed confusion as to why the five roads that had been opened for civilians are not allowing walkers. There were previously no restrictions on internal roads near Rashtrapathi Nilayam, but a sign appeared last year saying “walkers not allowed,” which has yet to be removed. G Sharath, a regular walker, said civilians would cooperate with authorities by showing their identity cards. Many senior citizens also used to take a morning stroll before LMA imposed restrictions.
