In Hyderabad, many people are upset with GHMC for not doing enough to prevent flooding during the monsoon season. Hans India has been publishing reports about flooded neighborhoods for two weeks, and more and more people are coming forward to share their stories. It’s not just people from the old city or certain areas of Secunderabad who are affected, but also people from the Eastern part of the city like ECIL Kushaiguda, Kapra, Charkripuram, Padmavati Colony, Kamla Nagar, and colonies near Kapra Lake.

Every year, officials and politicians make promises to fix the problem, but nothing changes. The residents say that the narrow lanes have no proper channels for water to flow out, so when it rains heavily, the whole lane gets flooded. This makes it hard to get around. Another problem is that rainwater mixed with sewage water enters the basements of houses, making life impossible.

Officials say that work has started to prevent flooding in the eastern part of the city, but residents say they haven’t seen any changes. They also point out that sewer lines are old and need to be replaced. When it rains even a little bit, water and sewage water accumulate on the roads, making it difficult for people to walk. The smell is also unbearable. The residents say they pay taxes too and want the authorities to do something about the problem.
