A photo exhibition at Salar Jung Museum in Hyderabad highlights the role of Telugu freedom fighters and the story of the Indian National Flag. Organized by the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, this event is part of the Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme.
V. Vijayendra Prasad, a Member of Parliament, and Prof. B. Jagadeeshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad, officially opened the exhibition. It includes over 40 panels that tell the stories of lesser-known heroes like Turrebaz Khan, Moulvi Allauddin, Kaloji Narayana Rao, Sangam Laxmi Bayamma, Kumram Bheem, and Suddala Hanumanthu.
Vijayendra Prasad described the exhibition as a valuable resource of historical knowledge. He stressed the need to share this information with young people, suggesting digital platforms for wider reach. Reflecting on the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ segment, which shows the flag’s design changes starting with Pingali Venkayya’s 1921 version, Prasad noted that the flag represents India’s honor and dignity, urging citizens to respect it.
Prof. B. Jagadeeshwar Rao spoke about how the exhibition helps keep history alive and instills patriotism in the youth. He focused on three main themes: India’s fight for freedom, the flag’s evolution, and Hyderabad’s liberation from Nizam’s rule. He encouraged students to turn patriotism into positive societal actions, highlighting education’s role in national progress and unity.
To engage more people, CBC Hyderabad organized essay and Telugu poetry contests on themes like ‘Operation Sindoor’ in five city colleges. Winners received awards from Vijayendra Prasad and Prof. Jagadeeshwar Rao.
Shruti Patil, Additional Director General of CBC, emphasized the exhibition’s goal to reconnect young people with India’s legacy of bravery. She hopes such efforts will deepen appreciation for the freedom movement.
Open to the public until August 17, 2025, the exhibition invites people to explore the history of Telugu freedom fighters. G. Kusum, Curator of Salar Jung Museum, and Koteshwar Rao, AD CBC, attended the event with other Ministry officials.
