Musheerabad Assembly constituency in Hyderabad will have a three-way contest in the upcoming elections. The BJP is hoping to challenge the current incumbent, Muta Gopal, while the Congress aims to attract the votes of the youth. The BJP is confident after its strong performance in the recent GHMC elections, while the Congress plans to capitalize on the changing political landscape.

According to the latest draft voter list published by the Election Commission on August 21, there are over 2.87 lakh voters in Musheerabad, including 1.39 lakh women. Muta Gopal, who initially considered nominating his son MutaJaisimha due to health reasons, has now been energized by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao clearing his name as a candidate. Gopal’s son also supports his father and is involved in social and welfare activities.

In 2018, Gopal defeated top BJP leader and sitting MLA Dr. K Laxman with over 50% of the votes (72,997). Laxman, who was the former BJP State president, came in third place with 30,813 votes, behind the runner-up M Anil Kumar Yadav from the Congress, who received 36,087 votes.

Laxman, as a former MLA and Rajya Sabha MP, holds significant influence in deciding the candidate for the BJP. The party is considering either Vijaya Lakshmi, the daughter of Haryana Governor and party veteran BandaruDattatreya, or G Bharat Goud, the former BJYM State president. The Congress is still deciding whether to nominate former MP M Anjan Kumar or M Anil Kumar Yadav, who is currently in charge of Musheerabad, as their candidate.
