Hyderabad: Minister of Agriculture Tummala Nageswara Rao criticized the Union government for providing misleading information about urea supplies to Telangana in Parliament.
Farmers are confused because the state received only 9.80 lakh metric tonnes for the Kharif season, while the Centre claims there are 20.20 lakh metric tonnes available.
On Saturday, Minister Tummala sent another letter to Union Minister Anupriya Patel. The letter detailed the fertilizer allocation from the Union’s Chemicals and Fertilizers department to Telangana.
It revealed only 9.80 lakh metric tonnes were allocated for Kharif 2025. This amount falls short of the monthly needs, causing a urea shortage in the state.
The Minister reminded that from April to July, 6.60 lakh metric tonnes were supposed to be supplied, but the Centre delivered only 4.36 lakh metric tonnes. This shortfall has troubled farmers.
He emphasized that this problem also affects Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
The letter also mentioned that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has communicated the urea shortage to Union Minister JP Nadda.
Minister Tummala stressed that incorrect data, especially in parliamentary talks, can harm states.
He called for urgent action to deliver the required urea for August, including the 2.24 lakh metric tonnes not supplied by July.
