V.C Sajjanar Warns: Beware of Fraudulent “RTO Challan” APK Files
V.C Sajjanar, the esteemed Commissioner of Police, has issued an urgent alert to the general public about the circulation of fraudulent ‘RTO Challan’ APK files. These files, circulated through WhatsApp, are reportedly part of a cyber scam designed to steal personal data and gain unauthorized control over mobile devices.
Fraudsters have been sending WhatsApp messages which contain malicious APK files disguised as traffic challan updates. Unwitting users who download and install these files are inadvertently providing hackers with access to their mobile devices.
These deceptive APKs can give cybercriminals full control over the victim’s mobile phone, enabling them to steal personal data, financial information, and other sensitive details. The potential risks and damages associated with this scam are severe.
Commissioner Sajjanar has urged the public to exercise vigilance and caution when receiving such messages. He has advised against downloading APKs from unknown sources or from links shared in messages. The public has been urged to report any suspicious messages to the Hyderabad Cyber Crime authority at 1930 or through their official website at cybercrime.gov.in.
This warning comes as part of a broader effort to raise awareness about cyber safety and the risks posed by fraudulent online activities. It aims to educate the public about the dangers of cybercrime and the importance of maintaining digital security.
“Stay alert, stay cyber safe,” says Commissioner Sajjanar, emphasizing the need for the public to remain informed and vigilant in the face of increasing online threats.
This is not the first time that APK files have been used as a method of cybercrime. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of cases involving the misuse of APK files to spread malware, steal data, and commit other forms of cybercrime. These scams often target unsuspecting users who may not be aware of the risks associated with downloading and installing files from unverified sources.
