The Kremlin claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin survived an assassination attempt by Ukraine. Moscow said that drones attacked Putin’s residence in the Kremlin citadel, but were stopped by electronic defenses. This is not the first time that Moscow has made claims of assassination attempts on Putin. According to reports, the Russian president has survived five assassination attempts.
The last attempt was in May 2022, when Ukraine’s Chief of Defence Intelligence revealed that an “unsuccessful attempt” to assassinate Putin was made at the start of the Russian-Ukraine war. Before that, another attempt was made in 2012, when a Chechen rebel was arrested for planning Putin’s assassination.
In 2003, an anti-terror squad from British police reportedly planned to kill Putin, and in 2002, there were two attempts. One was during his visit to Azerbaijan, where an Iraqi man was arrested for plotting to kill him, and the other was when Russian authorities were tipped off about a plan to assassinate Putin while he was in his car.
