Asiana Plane Passenger Opens Emergency Door Mid-air, Citing Bizarre Reason

An Asiana Airlines flight had a scary incident when a passenger opened the plane door before landing in Daegu, South Korea. The man, in his thirties, said that he did it because he was “uncomfortable” and wanted to leave the plane quickly. He also said that he was feeling stressed after losing his job recently. The event took place when the plane was about 700 feet (213m) above the ground, and it caused panic among the passengers. Nine people were taken to the hospital with breathing issues, but they were released two hours later. The police are investigating the case and plan to arrest the man when the investigation is complete.

Jin Seong-hyun, a former Korean Air cabin safety official, said that although passengers have opened emergency exits before, it is unprecedented for someone to open them without authorization while the plane is in the air. A South Korean transport ministry official said that it is possible to open emergency exits at or near ground level because the pressures inside and outside the cabin are similar.

The incident happened on May 26, 2023, and Reuters published a photo of the Airbus A321 plane where it happened.
