Italy has temporarily restricted Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s ChatGPT service due to concerns over data protection and privacy. The country’s data protection agency, Garante, accused OpenAI of not verifying the age of ChatGPT users and collecting and storing personal data without a legal basis. Garante has set an end-April deadline for OpenAI to meet its demands before the service can resume in Italy. Italy was the first western European country to take action against OpenAI, but other countries are also scrutinizing AI technology and calling for new regulations to govern its use.

The rapid development of AI has raised concerns about its impact on national security, jobs, and education. Experts say new regulations are needed to address these issues.
