    British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that Home Secretary Suella Braverman did not break any rules when she was caught speeding in 2022 and will not be investigated. Braverman had allegedly tried to avoid receiving penalty points on her license by appealing to civil servants. However, Sunak wrote a letter to her stating that he did not believe she had breached the ministerial code of conduct. Opposition parties had demanded that Braverman be referred to an independent adviser on ethics, but Sunak said that further investigation was not necessary.

    In the exchange of letters, Braverman admitted that she would have chosen a different course of action if faced with a similar situation again. She apologized for the controversy her actions had caused and said that at no point was she trying to avoid sanctions. However, she recognized that her actions may have given the perception that she was seeking to avoid them.

    The Liberal Democrats criticized Sunak’s decision not to investigate further, calling it a “cowardly cop-out.” Braverman had previously resigned as home secretary in October 2021 after admitting breaches of the ministerial code during Liz Truss’s premiership. She returned to her position after Sunak became prime minister.
