Former Pakistani prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has been remanded to eight days of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) custody in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case. He was also indicted on the same day by a sessions court in the Toshakhana case. Khan was arrested on Tuesday from the Islamabad High Court premises in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case. The NAB had initially requested a 14-day remand, but Khan’s lawyer opposed the request, stating that the case did not fall within the bureau’s ambit.

Khan’s arrest sparked violent and non-violent protests across Pakistan, with clashes between law enforcement officials and PTI cadres in major cities. The security situation in Peshawar is concerning, with four people having died and buildings set on fire. The arrests of high-profile leaders like Shah Mehmood Qureshi and PTI general secretary Asad Umar have led to further unrest. The army has been deployed in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan provinces.
