Former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan called for nationwide protests after his release on bail following his arrest earlier this week. Khan’s supporters reacted to his detention by setting fire to government buildings and damaging military property. At least nine people died in the unrest this week, with hundreds of police officers injured and more than 4,000 people detained.
