Pakistan celebrated its annual Pakistan Day on March 23, commemorating the passing of the Lahore Resolution in 1940, which demanded a separate nation for Muslims in the British Indian Empire. President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid homage to the founding fathers of Pakistan for their political wisdom and determination to establish a separate homeland. The traditional Pakistan Day Military Parade, which was scheduled to be held in Islamabad, was postponed until Saturday due to bad weather. The day was observed amidst economic hardship and political conflict between the ruling alliance and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party of former prime minister Imran Khan. The country is struggling to avoid default on external payments due to a delay in the approval of a loan agreement by the International Monetary Fund.
