The Pakistan government denies that the army was involved in the arrest of opposition leader Imran Khan. The National Accountability Bureau arrested Khan as part of an investigation into the Al-Qadir Trust case. Khan and his wife are accused of taking bribes to conceal large amounts of money. He was arrested at the Islamabad judicial complex while seeking bail in multiple FIRs registered against him. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party leaders and cadres are protesting against the arrest, and some protests have turned violent. The government blames PTI leaders and workers for the damage to public property. The government warns that such acts cannot be tolerated, and law enforcement agencies will continue to exercise restraint. Three out of four Pakistan provinces imposed an emergency order banning all gatherings after Khan’s supporters clashed with police.
