Police in the United States are seeking the extradition of the parents of a missing Texas boy who is feared dead. The boy, Sherin Mathews, was reported missing in October 2017 by his adoptive father, Wesley Mathews. After weeks of searching, the child’s body was found in a culvert near the family’s home in Richardson, Texas. The police have now issued warrants for the arrest of Wesley Mathews and his wife, Sini Mathews, who are believed to be living in India.

The case has attracted widespread attention and has been the subject of intense media scrutiny. According to reports, Wesley Mathews initially claimed that he had sent Sherin outside at 3 a.m. as punishment for not drinking her milk. When he went to check on her 15 minutes later, she was gone. He did not report her missing until five hours later. The police later discovered that Wesley had changed his story several times and had also admitted to removing the child’s body from the house after she died.

The case has raised questions about the role of the Indian government in extraditing suspects to face trial in the United States. India does not have an extradition treaty with the United States, and the process of extraditing suspects can be lengthy and complicated. However, officials in both countries have expressed a willingness to cooperate in this case, and the US authorities are hopeful that the Mathews will be brought to justice. The case has also highlighted the need for greater international cooperation in cases of cross-border crime, particularly when children are involved.
