Authorities in Hyderabad have stepped up their checks before the Jubilee Hills by-election. By Friday morning, officials had seized Rs 3.3 crore in cash and 701 litres of liquor. These actions aim to prevent illegal activities that could affect the election.
Enforcement agencies have filed 24 cases for breaking the Model Code of Conduct. Out of these, 15 cases involve election-related violence. Another seven cases are about holding meetings and speeches without permission. The remaining two cases involve giving out cash and goods to attract voters.
Officials have also confiscated drugs, including 2,454 kg of Ganja and a small amount of MDMA. The total value of the seized drugs is Rs 1,97,600. The liquor found is worth Rs 4,74,322.
The Jubilee Hills by-election is happening because Maganti Gopinath, a three-time MLA from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), passed away in April. The BRS has chosen Maganti Sunitha as their candidate. Congress has selected V Naveen Yadav, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is fielding Lankala Deepak Reddy. The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has decided to support the Congress candidate.
The by-election will take place on November 11, and the results will be out on November 14. Security and monitoring will continue to ensure a fair voting process.
