The Telangana government has approved a major infrastructure project to build a new six-lane arterial road connecting Gandipet (near CBIT) with Shankerpally Road via the area near ICFAI College. The sanction marks a significant step in improving mobility and decongesting traffic across Hyderabad’s rapidly expanding western corridor.

Details of the Project

The project involves the development of a roughly 3.57-kilometre long six-lane “Pipeline Road” linkage that will directly connect Shankerpally Road near MGIT in Gandipet with the Manikonda area. This road will serve as a critical arterial route for vehicles travelling between the city’s key residential, educational and commercial hubs.

Under the plan, the road will feature a six-lane carriageway with a 10-metre-wide median designed to accommodate a heritage channel, along with provisions for drain-cum-footpaths, culverts, minor bridges and improved junctions. Landscaping and missing link roads will also be constructed to improve connectivity and traffic distribution.

Funding and Execution

The state government has sanctioned approximately ₹110 crore (about Rs 1.10 billion) for the project, making it one of the significant localized roadway investments in the region.

According to officials, tenders for the work will be floated soon through the government’s e-procurement platform, and execution will be overseen by Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL), a special purpose vehicle under the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).

Benefits for Commuters and Local Areas

The new six-lane road is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Gandipet, Manikonda, Puppalguda, Narsingi, Kokapet and neighbouring areas by providing an alternate high-capacity route to the existing Shankerpally and Outer Ring Road corridors. It is also anticipated to support smoother traffic flows for residents, students, and daily commuters who currently face congestion on arterial routes at peak hours.

Officials say the development will not only improve connectivity for local commuters but also boost real estate and commercial growth along the alignment, given its access to major residential and IT hubs of western Hyderabad.

Expected Timeline

While exact commencement dates have not yet been announced, sources indicate that tendering and preparatory works will begin shortly. Once awarded, construction is expected to move quickly under state supervision, with efforts focused on minimizing disruption and completing the corridor within an efficient timeframe.

The road project underscores the Telangana government’s commitment to expanding and modernizing infrastructure in one of Hyderabad’s fastest growing urban clusters, responding to rising population, traffic demand and connectivity needs.
