Incomplete Construction Next to Haj House Awaits Government Attention
Hyderabad: A large building project next to the Haj House in Hyderabad has been left incomplete since 2009. This project, started under the YS Rajasekhar Reddy government in united Andhra Pradesh, now urgently needs the attention of the State government.
The structure is facing serious problems. Two basement floors are underwater due to rain, which is weakening the building over time.
With Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy set to visit the Haj House on April 29 to send off the first group of Haj pilgrims, many are demanding a review of the building’s condition and a decision on its future.
This is a 7-floor building, covering 3,800 square feet. It was originally planned for commercial use to help generate income for the Waqf Board and support welfare schemes for minorities.
According to Mohd Habeebuddin, “The construction of this building started with much excitement almost 20 years ago but remains unfinished due to political reasons. Water has been filling the basement for years, and despite several complaints, nothing has been done. We hope the Revanth Reddy government will complete it, which will benefit both the public and minority welfare departments.”
The foundation stone for the project, named Garden View Wakf Mall, was laid on February 22, 2009, by former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy. He was joined by former Minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir, MP Asaduddin Owaisi, former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, and other important leaders.
There were earlier plans to bring all Minority Welfare offices under one roof in this building. It was also proposed to house training centers for minorities offering technical and non-technical courses. Another plan was to lease the building to a multinational company, but no progress was made during the BRS government.
In 2019, there was a suggestion to hand over the development work to the TS Police Housing Corporation, but that too did not move forward.
Nayeemullah Shareef from the Waqf Properties Protection Cell said, “Since CM Revanth Reddy is coming to the Haj House on Tuesday, we request him to inspect the incomplete building and give orders to finish the work for the benefit of minority institutions in the State.”
