Hyderabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has released an initial report blaming Sigachi Chemical Factory Private Limited for a blast on June 30 in Sangareddy district’s Pashamylaram area. This tragic incident has resulted in 44 fatalities, with eight people still unaccounted for. The NDMA identified the company’s neglect of safety protocols as the primary cause of the explosion.
A team from the NDMA visited the factory and met with company representatives. During the meeting, they questioned the management about the safety measures in place for workers, particularly in areas where highly concentrated drug materials are produced.
The NDMA found that the company neglected safety procedures and did not prioritize worker safety at the reactors. On the day of the explosion, the management failed to provide sufficient safety information to protect the workers.
Concerns were raised about the delayed use of safety equipment to assist the seriously injured. This delay highlighted doubts about the management’s commitment to maintaining proper safety protocols.
The NDMA also observed that the factory operated continuously without adhering to safety protocols and standard procedures before each shift. The fire occurred during the morning shift when safety officials were not fully present, and the management did not enforce strict safety oversight.
The NDMA’s report is essential for potential legal actions against the company. The state government will use this report to verify the factory’s safety measures before taking further steps.
