In Hyderabad, the ongoing construction of the Malakpet – Santosh Nagar flyover and the poor conditions of the roads are causing significant problems for locals. People living or commuting in the area are finding it hard to reach their destinations due to the damaged roads and frequent traffic jams.
Locals complain that the traffic police are more focused on catching traffic violators rather than managing the traffic flow and working with the civic authorities to fix the roads.
The route from Santosh Nagar to Malakpet, passing through IS Sadan, Dhobighat, and Saidabad junctions, is heavily congested. Both sides of the road are in terrible condition. Vignesh Kumar, a resident of Dhobighat, shared that instead of easing traffic, the flyover construction has made commuting a nightmare. The roads become particularly hazardous during the monsoon, making the journey rough and challenging.
Traffic on this stretch has grown over the years, and being part of the inner ring road, it’s prone to accidents due to the road damage. Commuters mention the high risk of accidents because of large potholes. Mohiuddin Khan from Santosh Nagar colony highlighted the regular traffic snarls he faces from I S Sadan to Chanchalguda Jail road. The recent rains have worsened the road conditions, and ongoing flyover work causes water to splash on commuters, especially those waiting at traffic signals.
K Srikanth, a resident of Saidabad, expressed frustration over the slow progress of flyover construction. The roads have remained in poor condition for years, with the rains causing severe damage. He pointed out that the roads, filled with craters and potholes, are damaging vehicles, leading to expensive repairs. Despite this, traffic police focus mainly on issuing fines rather than addressing the road issues.
Residents and local forums are urging the civic body to repair the roads as soon as possible.
