Hyderabad: The 2025 Bathukamma festival kicked off with a grand start at the historic Thousand Pillar Temple in Warangal on Sunday evening. The event blended devotion, tradition, and culture as ministers launched the celebrations amidst a crowd of women carrying colorful Bathukammas. The temple area was filled with vibrant colors as thousands gathered to join in Telangana’s “festival of nature.” Earlier, the Kakatiya Dance Drama Festival at the Kaloji Cultural Centre set a cultural tone with a Kuchipudi performance honoring Chakali Ailamma, a heroine of the Telangana Armed Struggle.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, along with Ministers Jupally Krishna Rao, Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, and Konda Surekha, watched the performance and spoke at the event. Bhatti Vikramarka called the festival a symbol of women’s empowerment and unity. “Bathukamma is more than flowers; it represents our identity, unity, and prosperity. We hope for women’s social and economic growth, leading to Telangana’s progress,” he stated. Minister Jupally Krishna Rao mentioned the festival’s 200-year history and its role in uniting people during the Telangana movement. Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy sent festive greetings to women statewide.
Minister Seethakka highlighted the scientific and traditional aspects of Bathukamma. “Since the Kakatiya era, we have celebrated Bathukamma as a prayer for water, prosperity, and harmony. Women share their joys and connect with nature during this festival,” she explained. Minister Konda Surekha shared similar thoughts, encouraging women to bless Telangana with prosperity.
Adding a personal touch, Minister Konda Surekha sang the folk song “Chittuu Chittula Bomma,” joined by Minister Seethakka, MP Kavya, Mayor Gundu Sudharani, activist Gaddar’s daughter Vennela, and groups of women. The chorus created a festive atmosphere full of cultural pride, setting the tone for more joyful days in Telangana.
