Telangana excise officers arrested two men on Saturday, November 8 for smuggling ganja hidden inside a car tire. One of the suspects works as a home guard.
The operation began when Umakant Nagar from Malkangiri district in Odisha contacted Nilambar Mirkan to transport the illegal drugs to Hyderabad. Excise officials received information about the smuggling plan.
Officers set up a checkpoint near Ramoji Film City where they stopped the suspects’ vehicle. During the initial search, authorities found nothing suspicious in the car.
However, excise officials noticed something unusual about the spare tire in the vehicle’s trunk. The tire showed clear signs that someone had tampered with it recently.
When officers examined the spare tire more carefully, they discovered four packets of ganja weighing 15 kilograms hidden inside. The smugglers had cleverly concealed the drugs within the tire to avoid detection.
Both Nilambar Mirkan and his companion Sona Kala were immediately taken into custody. The excise team seized the vehicle along with all the contraband found inside.
The Hayathnagar excise station received custody of both the car and the seized ganja. Officials have registered a criminal case against the supplier Umakant Nagar, who remains at large in Odisha.
This arrest highlights the creative methods drug smugglers use to transport illegal substances across state borders. Excise officials continue their efforts to crack down on drug trafficking networks operating between Odisha and Telangana.
The case demonstrates how law enforcement agencies are staying vigilant at checkpoints to catch smugglers who think they can outsmart the system with hidden compartments.
