Chief Minister Revanth Reddy held a crucial meeting with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi, focusing on establishing Telangana as a significant centre for defence, aerospace and advanced aviation at both national and international levels. The meeting addressed multiple strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening the state’s position in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem.
The primary agenda centred on the Defence Expo 2026, which Telangana will host at Bharat Future City. The Chief Minister requested the Centre’s full cooperation to transform the event into a landmark showcase featuring participation from the Armed Forces, defence public sector undertakings including HAL, BEL, BDL and MDL, DRDO laboratories, global defence companies and international delegations. The Expo will highlight India’s indigenous defence capabilities and include an air show featuring the Surya Kiran and Sarang aerobatic teams along with static aircraft displays.
A significant portion of the discussions addressed critical infrastructure requirements for defence projects in the state. The Adilabad Airport project received special attention, with Telangana having already acquired 750 acres of land and seeking an additional 750 acres from the Defence Ministry to meet the total requirement of 1,500 acres. The state government also proposed providing 416.18 acres at Kothakonda in Mahbubnagar district for a DRDL project on a nominal annual lease of ₹1 for 33 years with an extension option.
The meeting also covered development plans for Adilabad and Warangal airports, establishment of an MRO facility at Adilabad, and the need for coordination between the Defence and Civil Aviation Ministries regarding the Adilabad runway. These infrastructure projects are expected to create substantial opportunities for technology transfer and partnerships within Telangana’s defence and aerospace sector.
Beyond traditional defence infrastructure, Revanth Reddy explored new opportunities in heli-tourism and seaplane connectivity. He discussed the proposed seaplane landing facility at Hussainsagar, reflecting a comprehensive vision for expanding the state’s aviation and tourism capabilities. These initiatives aim to diversify Telangana’s aviation ecosystem beyond conventional military and commercial applications.
The Chief Minister extended an invitation to Rajnath Singh for the Invest Telangana Global Summit 2026, scheduled from December 7 to 9 at Bharat Future City. The summit aims to attract global capital, cutting-edge technology and strategic industries to the state, positioning Telangana as a preferred destination for defence manufacturing and aerospace investments in India’s strategic growth landscape.
