In Hyderabad, the Telangana State Food Safety Department conducted a thorough inspection of 55 pizza outlets across the state. This initiative revealed numerous breaches of food safety standards.
The inspection included 18 Pizza Hut locations, 16 Domino’s Pizza outlets, and 21 other local pizzerias and bakeries. The task force, featuring Gazetted Food Inspectors and Food Safety Officers, scrutinized establishments within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area and throughout all districts of Telangana.
At Pizza Hut, managed by Devyani International Ltd and Sapphire Foods India, several issues were found. In the GHMC area, problems included mismatches in licensing and jurisdiction, improper separation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian items, and equipment that was not properly calibrated. In Hanamkonda, machinery was found to be dirty, while in Warangal, staff received medical certificates without adequate examinations. Additional violations occurred in Nizamabad and Nalgonda, where outlets failed to display licenses, maintain freezers at correct temperatures, and cover dustbins.
