The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), also known as Jalamandali, has taken strict action against the misuse of drinking water in the city. The board penalised a pub in Jubilee Hills after it found water was being misused at the premises.

Officials inspected the Fore Fathers Pub, located at Plot No. 872, Road No. 45, in the Jubilee Hills Ward under the Jubilee Hills Circle. They carried out the field-level inspection after receiving a complaint about water misuse.

The inspection confirmed the misuse. The board imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the pub management. It also removed the drinking water connection and stopped the supply of commercial water tankers from the board’s filling station to the pub.

The board expects pressure on water availability to rise in the coming summer. It has urged people to use every drop of water carefully. It has asked hotels, restaurants, pubs and other commercial establishments to act responsibly and avoid wasting drinking water.

The board has warned that it will not tolerate water misuse under any circumstances. Those who violate the rules face fines and removal of water connections. It has also asked the public to report any incident of water wastage or misuse. Reports should include photos, videos, details of the persons or organisations involved, the location and the full address. They can be sent to the board’s WhatsApp number 99499 30003. Complaints can also be registered with Customer Care at 155313.

The board said it will investigate complaints on the ground and take action as per the rules if violations are confirmed. It has assured that the identity of those who share information will be kept strictly confidential. It has also urged citizens to take part in protecting drinking water.
