The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (Water Board) has set October 25 as the final date for registration of all private Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) within its jurisdiction. Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy said registration is mandatory and that only a few days remain.
The Water Board estimates that there are about 600 private STPs in its jurisdiction. So far, only 61 STPs have registered. Ashok Reddy advised the managements of the remaining plants to register before the deadline ends.
The registration applies to STPs set up in apartments, gated communities, commercial complexes, hotels, hospitals, educational institutions, industries and other private establishments. The Water Board has started this process to collect details on STP capacity, daily sewage treatment volume, usage of treated water and availability of surplus water.
The Water Board is also taking steps to reduce pressure on drinking water resources during the coming summer. Treated water will be used for construction activities, industries, garden maintenance and other non-potable purposes. Priority is being given to the proper use of surplus treated water from private STPs.
Private STP managements can register online. A special registration link, erp.hyderabadwater.gov.in/HmwssbOnlineNe…, is available on the Water Board website, hyderabadwater.dawc.in. Managements must open the website and click on the private STP registration link.
In the online form, they must enter the name and address of the institution, contact information, STP capacity, daily sewage treatment volume, treated water usage, surplus water availability and other required details. Ashok Reddy suggested that managements verify all details before completing the registration.
Ashok Reddy appealed to the managements of unregistered private STPs to complete the process immediately instead of waiting for the last day. He stated that October 25 should be treated as the final deadline for registration.
