Andhra Pradesh was among the states facing a serious rainfall deficit and water stress until mid-September. The situation has since changed. A deep depression in the last week of September and the ongoing impact of Cyclone Arnab have brought substantial rain to several parts of the state, which could ease water shortages.
The cyclone also carries risks. Destructive winds linked to the system could leave a different set of challenges behind in affected areas of Andhra Pradesh.
Telangana continues to face a worrying situation. Large parts of the state, especially Hyderabad, have missed out on meaningful rainfall during both the summer and monsoon seasons. The lack of significant rain-bearing weather systems has left water concerns increasingly serious in several areas.
For Hyderabad, the last notable spell of widespread rainfall tied to a major weather system came with Cyclone Montha on 29 October 2025. That was almost a year ago. Since then, the city has largely missed the kind of substantial rainfall events needed to provide real relief.
There is some hope on the horizon. Another strong weather system could develop around November 1–5. If it forms and extends into Telangana, it could bring much-needed rainfall and some relief to the state’s growing water concerns.
The November 1–5 system remains a possibility, not a confirmed forecast. Its development, track and rainfall potential will need to be monitored.
