A key step toward better public transport has been taken in Uppal. The foundation stone for a state-of-the-art City Bus Terminal will be laid on Saturday within the Zonal Workshop limits in Uppal, Hyderabad.
The Municipal Corporation (MMC) will carry out the project at a cost of Rs. 3.22 crore. The layout plan for the terminal has already been prepared.
The terminal will come up next to the 100-foot main road, adjacent to National Highway 202. The location is close to a busy transport corridor in the Malkajgiri area.
RTC runs more than 1,000 trips daily towards Uppal from Hayatnagar, Secunderabad, Mehdipatnam and Chengicherla. These services carry more than one lakh passengers every day.
The design includes entry and exit routes with a width of 23 feet to ease movement inside the terminal. A 40-foot-wide driveway has been proposed on the other side for buses. 20-foot-wide driveways are also planned to help buses move smoothly.
Passengers will get special shelters that protect them from sun and rain. The terminal will also have state-of-the-art toilets.
