Hyderabad: The Telangana Police have launched seven new digital services, including a mobile face search app that can match faces against a database of more than 9.8 lakh photographs in about 15 seconds. Director General of Police (DGP) C V Anand launched the services on Wednesday. The police said the initiatives aim to speed up crime detection, improve the quality of investigations and make police services more transparent and accountable.
The Mobile Face Search app was developed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Police personnel can use it to identify suspects, missing persons, deceased individuals and unidentified bodies. Matches generated by the app will have to be assessed as part of the investigation. Another app, Crime Scene Chance Print, lets investigators collect fingerprints found at crime scenes using Android smartphones. The prints go directly to the state server for automated comparison with available records. Officials said Telangana is the first in the country to introduce this method of fingerprint collection and matching through an application.
The Citizen Feedback Centre (CFC) will collect feedback from people who have recently used police services. It covers petition handling, FIR registration, e-challans and passport verification. The department will use the responses to assess public satisfaction and identify areas where service delivery can improve.
The Women Safety Wing has developed Bharosa software to bring all 35 Bharosa centres in Telangana onto one digital platform. The system records and tracks counselling, medical, legal and rehabilitation services given to victims. Officials can monitor each case from registration to closure. The software replaces paper-based registers with state-level dashboards and 23 types of reports.
The Jail Release Monitoring System (JRMS) gives police timely information about prisoners being released from jails. It integrates the National Informatics Centre’s e-Prisons platform with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS). It sends SMS alerts to the concerned police stations and officers. It also offers state-level dashboards, AI-based analysis and a facility to search prisoner details, which will help police strengthen preventive monitoring and identify possible links to criminal networks. The department has also launched a dedicated website, https://cid.tspolice.gov.in/, with information on CID activities and services. In addition, the CID has prepared five volumes of standard operating procedures (SOPs) covering physical offences, property offences, crimes against women and children, special and local laws, and other offences. They are meant to guide investigating officers, strengthen evidence collection and improve the quality of cases presented before courts.
The launch was attended by DGP (Law & Order) Mahesh Bhagwat, CID DGP Charu Sinha, ADGP Akun Sabharwal, IG (P&L) Gajarao Bhupal, DIGs Narayana Nayak and Parimala Hana Nuthan, and SPs Vishwajit Kampati, Rupesh, Praveen Kumar, Mallareddy, Balakoti and Srinivas. The Telangana Police said the seven digital services combine technology with standardised investigation procedures to strengthen crime prevention, improve investigative efficiency and deliver better services to citizens.
