The Centre has released ₹275 crore for Hyderabad Metro Phase-2, according to the information available. Of this amount, ₹150 crore is meant for works such as alignment surveys, Detailed Project Report (DPR) progress and other preliminary activities. The remaining ₹125 crore is provided as loan support. The funds aim to speed up Phase-2 processes that have moved slowly.
The release follows media reports from around 26–27 October about the Centre’s approval for a 76.4 km expansion of the metro network. The expansion spans five corridors and carries an estimated cost of ₹24,269 crore. The reports mention a completion target of 2029.
The Telangana government’s broader proposal is larger. It covers about 123 km across seven corridors, at an estimated cost of ₹38,595 crore. The plan is structured as a joint Centre-state project.
The key proposed corridors include:
- Nagole–Shamshabad Airport, the airport link
- Raidurg–Kokapet Neopolis, serving the IT and financial district
- MGBS–Chandrayangutta, serving the Old City
- Miyapur–Patancheru
- LB Nagar–Hayathnagar
The expansion targets better connectivity to the airport, IT hubs, industrial areas and suburbs, with the aim of easing traffic in Hyderabad. Some reports still describe the full Phase-II clearance as pending, as discussions on funding and process continue.
