The Telangana EAGLE Force has arrested Kalapathi Nithu Bai (51), an alleged ganja peddler from Nanakramguda, in Hyderabad. Police say she ran a family-operated drug business for nine years, since 2017. She was caught on November 6 while travelling in an autorickshaw towards Mangalhat.
According to police, she bought ganja in bulk, divided it into smaller packets and sold it around Nanakramguda. Her potential customers included IT professionals and students. Police say she allegedly made sales worth ₹24 lakh in a single day, and that a currency counting machine and a drug weighing machine were part of the operation.
Family members allegedly helped run the network. Her son was caught in 2023 while transporting 22 kg of ganja in a Scorpio. In three earlier operations linked to the family, police seized ₹67 lakh in cash and 51.5 kg of ganja.
Around 30 drug and Excise cases have been registered against her and her family members. She was absconding in 13 of these cases. Police say she was arrested several times, but allegedly resumed the business after securing bail.
Police also caught around 50 alleged customers visiting her residence. According to officials, she kept changing locations and avoided using mobile phones to evade arrest.
Investigators are examining several properties as suspected drug-funded assets. These include two G+3 buildings in Langer Houz, a G+2 building in Gachibowli and other properties linked to the family.
