Excise officials seized 163 bottles of defence liquor in two separate raids in Alwal, Hyderabad. The officials say the liquor was allegedly sold illegally by women whose husbands reportedly procured it through defence canteens.
In both cases, officials found that the liquor was bought at subsidised rates through defence canteen quotas. It was allegedly sold to customers outside the authorised system. The seized stock is estimated to be worth Rs. 2.11 lakh.
In the first case, the Malkajgiri Enforcement team searched a house in Saraswathi Nagar, Lothukunta. The raid followed information about the illegal sale of defence liquor by Manyam Nagaprasanna and her husband, Ram Anjaneyulu. Officials seized 96 bottles during the inspection.
According to Assistant Commissioner Pradeep Rao, Ram Anjaneyulu allegedly procured the bottles. His wife, Nagaprasanna, handled the sales from their residence. A case was registered against both. Nagaprasanna was arrested and handed over to the Alwal Excise Station.
In a separate operation, the State Task Force Team-B, led by CI Ganapathi Reddy, raided a house in Sowjanya Colony, New Bowenpally. The area falls under the Alwal Excise Station limits. The team seized 67 bottles of defence liquor from Musimi Lenka, 39.
Lenka was arrested for allegedly selling the liquor illegally and handed over to the Alwal Excise Station, CI Ganapathi Reddy said. Excise officials are investigating both cases.
