Khammam: Additional Collector P Srinivasa Reddy stressed the importance of a well-planned strategy to ensure farmers get the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops like paddy and cotton. He spoke during a training at the Collectorate hall on Saturday, focusing on Kharif paddy procurement and the use of the ‘Cotton Kisan’ app by officials.
The district plans to procure 3 lakh metric tonnes of paddy this Kharif season, including 2.6 lakh metric tonnes of fine paddy and 40,000 metric tonnes of coarse paddy. Reddy highlighted the need to mill the fine paddy within three to four months after purchase.
Marketing Regional Deputy Director Padmavati noted that the government is ready to buy cotton through the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) at MSP due to declining market prices. The MSP for high-quality cotton, with 8% moisture, is Rs 8,110 per quintal, with reductions if moisture exceeds this level. She urged officers to inform farmers about these quality standards.
Padmavati also mentioned that the Cotton Kisan app allows farmers to book slots from home, making the selling process easier and avoiding market waits. For cotton procurement help, farmers can call the toll-free number 1800 599 5779 or WhatsApp 88972 81111.
