The Andhra Pradesh Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has filed a case against former Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and others for illegal sand mining. The complaint was made by the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC), stating that the accused caused a loss of Rs 10,000 crore to the State exchequer. The accused allegedly used the free sand policy as a cover for corruption. The policy allowed the public to access sand without any charge from March 2, 2016. It also allowed the excavation and use of sand from existing sand reaches with environmental clearance within the state limits.
