The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly opposed the Telangana government’s decision to sell land belonging to the University of Hyderabad (UoH). The party urged the state to find other ways to generate revenue instead of selling public property.

At a press conference held at the BJP’s state office, party general secretary K. Venkateshwarlu emphasized the importance of protecting the university’s land. He pointed out that the university was originally given 2,300 acres, and selling this land would negatively impact students. He also warned that Hyderabad would lose valuable open spaces, which are crucial as the city continues to expand rapidly.

Venkateshwarlu further criticized the police for detaining BJP youth wing activists during a protest near the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. He condemned the government’s actions against student protests, particularly at Osmania University, calling the restrictions unfair and undemocratic. He also accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s Congress-led government of behaving in an authoritarian manner, similar to the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government under K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

The alleged land sale has sparked a larger debate about urban planning and the need to protect public spaces in Hyderabad. Opposition parties have come together to protest what they see as an attempt to sell off valuable government land. The state government has yet to officially respond to these allegations.
