German consumer electronics brand Blaupunkt is planning to export LED TVs to Australia and South America, with India as the hub for production. Blaupunkt operates in India through its brand licensee Super Plastronics Pvt Ltd (SPPL) and is also expanding its offering beyond TVs to other appliances. The company is also planning to enter the photovoltaic products business in India, having had success in the renewable energy market of Europe and teaming up with SPPL.
Blaupunkt’s Indian partner, SPPL, is coming up with a new TV manufacturing unit that will be operational in the next two quarters with an installed capacity to roll out two million units per annum. This will be a good solution for markets facing sourcing problems. Blaupunkt believes that Indian production can be of good quality with a good software and hardware platform. They sell by teaming up with Google, which will overcome the problems of sourcing and pricing, which is the biggest challenge in the TV market today.
