In Jagtial, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) faced a setback as Municipal Chairperson Jyothi Lakshman, party councillor Chaduvula Tirupatamma, and independent councillor Varanasi Malavva joined the Congress Party. This move was supported by several BRS leaders who also switched to the Congress at the residence of MLC T Jeevan Reddy, who welcomed them with party scarves.
Among the new members joining the Congress were advocate Siripuram Mahender, Bhogoji Mukesh Khanna, Adepu Satyam, Siripuram Venkatayya, and Tirumalayya. They expressed their attraction towards the development initiatives of the government and the MLC as reasons for joining the party.
During the event, Jeevan Reddy encouraged the newcomers to work diligently and emphasized the party’s commitment to serving marginalized communities. Jyothi shared that returning to the Congress felt like coming home for her after previously working with the party for 20 years. She mentioned her dissatisfaction with the local BRS legislator’s policies and pledged to work together with other new members for the success of Jeevan Reddy in the Nizamabad LS poll.
Additional BRS and BJP activists who joined the Congress included Venkatesh from Thatipalli village in Jagtial rural mandal along with 30 youth. Various Congress leaders were present at the gathering, including town party president Kotha Mohan, councillors Durgayya and Nakka Jeevan, former municipal chairpersons Giri Nagabhushnam and Vijayalakshmi, among others.
In a recent municipal chairperson election, 12 BRS councillors collaborated with members from the Opposition to secure Jyothi’s victory.
