Hyderabad: C.S. Rangarajan, the head priest at Chilkur Balaji Temple, is backing Telangana BJP leader N. Ramchander Rao. Rao recently wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the powers of the Governor and the President as discussed by a two-judge bench.
Rao’s letter focuses on the deity’s right to be worshipped, especially highlighting the Tiruppan Alwar Ammal (SC/ST) communities’ importance in this worship. He insists that the Supreme Court should consider this matter seriously, emphasizing these communities’ rights to uphold and celebrate their religious traditions.
The decision from the Supreme Court on whether to accept the reference is awaited on 19th August 2025. Rao mentions that Indian Attorney General R. Venkataramani will assist the Court as Amicus Curiae. He stresses that the Government’s legal team must handle the reference carefully to ensure justice while respecting national interests and the rights of worshipping communities.
Rao also refers to Article 145 (3) of the Constitution, which requires at least five judges for significant legal questions. He emphasizes the need for a detailed review and warns against hasty decisions in such crucial matters.
