Gadwal: District Collector B. M. Santosh has instructed medical staff to identify high-risk pregnancies early and take precautions to protect mothers and newborns.
On Saturday, the Collector visited the Urban Primary Health Centre at Ontalpeta without prior notice. During his visit, he checked on doctors’ attendance, outpatient numbers, staff presence, delivery rates, vaccination coverage, and medicine availability.
The Collector highlighted the need for essential healthcare services within the district, so residents don’t have to seek treatment elsewhere. He urged doctors to ensure that deliveries happen in government hospitals and work on increasing these institutional deliveries.
Addressing anemia among women, he stressed the importance of awareness about nutritious food. He directed medical officers to provide proper treatment and ensure blood supply in government hospitals for patients.
He emphasized that ANMs and ASHA workers should monitor pregnant women, identify complications early, and ensure necessary precautions for safe deliveries. He insisted on mandatory Antenatal Care (ANC) registrations and proper record-keeping for women who migrate to other areas.
The Collector also ordered a constant supply of medicines, cleanliness in hospital surroundings, and regular immunization programs. For seasonal diseases like malaria, dengue, and chikungunya, he asked for sufficient stocks of essential medicines to be prepared in advance.
District Medical and Health Officer Dr. Siddappa, Dr. Madhurya, medical staff, and other officials accompanied the Collector during the inspection.
