The Congress party has welcomed the release of the caste census in Bihar. They are calling on the government to conduct a similar census at the national level. According to former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, the census in Bihar shows that 84% of the population belongs to OBCs, SCs, and STs. He believes that their representation should be based on their population.

Gandhi also pointed out that out of the 90 secretaries in the Central government, only 3 are OBC. These secretaries handle only 5% of India’s budget. This highlights the need for a caste census at the national level. The UPA government led by the Congress had conducted a census previously, but its results were not published by the Modi government.

If the Modi government does not conduct a caste census, the Congress party has promised to carry it out once they are in power. They believe it is important for every section of society to receive their fair share.

The Congress party also stated that the caste-based census in Bihar provides an indication of the representation of different classes in society.
