Hyderabad: On Monday, Health Minister C Damodar Raja Narsimha met with Attorney General Sudarshan Reddy. He asked him to defend the rights of Telangana students regarding their local status in the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court had earlier ordered adherence to the previous year’s practices. Following Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s directions, Minister Rajanarsimha visited AG Sudarshan Reddy at his home. He requested the AG to argue in favor of Telangana students’ interests. The minister also suggested seeking help from senior lawyers if needed for the Supreme Court case.
Last year, the state government issued GO 33 to ensure that only local students received medical seats during counseling. The rule required students to have studied in Telangana continuously for four years to be considered locals. However, some students who studied outside lost their local status, leading them to seek court intervention.
As these students sought inclusion in the Telangana local quota, the minister met with the AG to ensure the protection of local students’ interests.
