Delhi police summon Revanth in Amit Shah video morphing case

Delhi Police visited Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Monday to serve a notice under section 91 of CrPC to Congress’ Social Media in-charge Manne Satish regarding a doctored video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The video falsely showed Shah stating that the government planned to abolish all reservations, when in reality he had only mentioned abolishing the reservation quota for Muslims.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has been summoned to appear before the Cyber Crime Unit on May 1 with his mobile phone, which was allegedly used to post the fake video. Delhi Police took action after receiving complaints from the BJP and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), leading to the registration of an FIR against Revanth and other Congress social media activists.

The FIR includes charges under Sections 153, 153A, 465, 469, and 171G of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 66C of the Information Technology (IT) Act. Officials are currently investigating the matter to determine the origin of the video and identify those responsible for its circulation.

The MHA’s complaint highlighted the circulation of doctored videos on platforms like Facebook and X, aimed at spreading misleading information and inciting disharmony among communities. The attached report detailed links and handles associated with the fake videos of the Home Minister, linking them to the notices served on Revanth Reddy.
